For a $40.00 ticket, I was expecting big thrills, lots of theme-related decorations and a ton of creepy clown actors to put me in the mindset of what I read online on their website, but that punch in the gut of "waste of money" came too soon. The lack of communication between workers at the front mostly made for an awkward start and the crowd was certainly not silent about it.
Seeing the actors getting ready through the windows and open door of a house before even entering the main gate of Carnevil ruined the fantasy. There were just four games to play that were "carnevil" inspired, which was NOTHING like the picture on the website. There were 2 sets of Bean Bag Toss layed out on a dark field...to give you an idea of a serious oversell. The Jail Brewing Company saved the night serving up a ton of disappointed guests with Halloween cocktails, which were fun, but the murmurs of "is that it?" when it came to the main event at the Haunted Woods put it all into perspective. It really felt like the whole thing was put together at the last minute by amatures. Hearing from a guy overseeing the hay rides that "politics" caused some "issues"...I can only assume he had something to do with running the place, but just openly talking about something like that to guests...I mean, wow...mood killer. There were a few food trucks and while I didn't sample the goods there, I did have fun making s'mores on a fire, so that was cool. Overall, people wanted more for what they paid! More scares, more actors, more games...more menacing decorations...more of Mr. Archibald Evil's dark story and his untimely death! Hire a theatre director to bring the spooky plot of a haunted amusement park to life if that's what it takes! If they are returning next year, I expect to walk out of there saying, "$40 bucks?!?!.... WORTH IT!" instead of shaking my head and feeling sorry for all those VIPs who dropped a whopping $60 bucks for a poorly constructed...everything.
